"does this dress make me look fat?"
I am amazed at the perception people put on physical appearance. While there is nothing wrong with looking your best, the industry just bombards us with ads that tell us if we are not using a certain product, we are failures!
I was watching "Katie," recently, a show hosted by Katie Couric. One episode featured a gal who had survived "flesh eating bacteria." She lost both of her legs and her lower arms. Yet her spirit was indominable! She worked out with what she had, wanting to become as independent as possible. In another episode, a 44 year old gal who had just given birth via C-section also found out that she had cancer in her Fallopian tube. Stage three. Her world was turned upside down and even after nine grueling months of therapy and chemo, the outcome is still uncertain. She showed everyone her vulnerabilities, her baldness, her bloat from steroids, and we all cried at her strength.
Then I watch all these diet ads featuring celebrities who are on a weight gain/loss roller coaster and I wonder, "you have all the money in the world. Does this excess in eating show us that maybe...you are not really as happy as you'd like us all to believe?"
Looks are not everything. The most beautiful face in the world may be comcealing a cold heart. I think of Mother Teresa. Her lined and wrinkled face and stooped over appearance was probably the most beautiful I can imagine. Why? Her heart was so pure. She was a servant to the needy and showed us what true love, peace, joy and contentment really is!
Today, don't be so concerned with outward appearances. God can see what is inside your heart. Maybe....the better thing to do is to examine where your priorities are and make that change!

I believe the ultimate source of blessings is within us. A good motivation and honesty bring self-confidence, which attracts the trust and respect of others. Therefore the real source of blessings is in our own mind. ~Dalia Lama
