about resiliency....

On my morning walks with my two little dogs, I have noticed a small aspen sapling, clinging to the side of a steep incline, growing as if the precariousness of it's position doesn't bother it all. It's delicate leaves gently move with the softest of breezes as it grows amongst a copse of older oaks. I look at this tree and often admire it's tenacity.

Then there was a clutch of weeds with pretty yellow flowers on it. It looked as though someone had pulled it up, roots and all and then dropped it along the way. For several days, it laid there. The rains we had didn't beat it into the ground; the fact that the roots were exposed didn't kill it. If anything, the flowers actually GREW day by day!

That tree...that weed...it has resilience. It has what it takes to survive at all costs no matter what the odds.
Many people have resilience also. They can be displaced by losses, illnesses and time, yet always figure out how to land on their feet...sometimes battle scarred and weary, but never down and out. They know that when one has Faith, all one has to do is to look UP and good things will happen...no matter what the odds are!

What can we learn from them? I know of those who always lend a hand to another, no matter what their own circumstances are. They go through life so filled with cheer and love, you can't help but wonder where they get their energy from!

I want to be like that...filled with energy and love and compassion. As we listen to the news reports of late and hear of folks who have survived fires, floods, hurricanes and tornadoes, let's reach out and be a neighbor to them. Be a hero, even if they don't think they need one. As I pointed out before, that aspen sapling isn't all alone...it has a few strong, older oak trees surrounding it, giving it shade and stability from the harsh winds of time. May it be the same with all of us...be an oak to another today!!
May God bless you!!

  1. I know about being weak. I give thanks to the strong ones around me who are MY oak trees and have kept me safe. You all know who you are!

  2. "A happy heart makes the face cheerful, but heartache crushes the spirit."- Proverbs 15:13 your words prove that this may not always be the case! We are what we live. We can be cranky and irritable but that won't get brownie points with many people. Better to just be happy!

  3. We can all learn from weeds...they always grow no matter what the condition.

  4. You always simplify things! You have such a Pollyanna outlook about life. Take for instance Moore, OK. Those folks at this point really don't care who is an oak, a willow or anything. They lost EVERYTHING! Can you even grasp that? So quit being so la-di-dah! about shit!

    1. Reverend, I love your posts...it is BECAUSE they are simply stated that I follow them! In this world, everything is tossed at us...bad news all over. Rev Baum shows us the good side of life, even if we don't want to believe! She is like the Mister Rogers of our time! How dare you pick on her! Take one thing that you see which is good and give thanks for it. You'll be surprised at what happens next!
