do you have room for Jesus in the inn of your heart?
As you prepare for Christmas, is there room in your holiday planning for Jesus? Do you set aside time to do "churchy" things, like going to church, visiting someone who may not have anyone else to visit, do you donate your time or talent to a worthy cause....I could go on, but the message is clear.
This season is all about the birth of Jesus. It is NOT meant to be the season of commercialism, despite what advertisers would have you believe! It is not the time to get all flustered in the whole, "I don't have time to work, shop, wrap, bake and make merry, let alone spend time with those whom I do not know!" scenario. It IS about taking time to savor with family and friends, to take in the view of decorated neighborhoods full of colored lights, to spend time in prayer, seeking answers to today's problems. It IS time to let Jesus into our hearts, minds and souls. Even Jesus Himself took time to go off into the mountains to pray and reconcile Himself to God.
Why should it be any different for us?
When you make a batch of cookies, set aside some for that hard working neighbor. When you shovel your pathway free of snow, also shovel out your neighbor. When you buy groceries for yourself, put aside a few selections for the food shelf donation box. When you sing carols, sing the ones that give praise to Jesus! and when you pray, make sure to include those who need God's guidance more now than ever.
It isn't hard to get close to God. He is waiting...is there any room for Him in your Life?
I have what I call a sandpaper person for a neighbor. Gosh, she drains me of my energy. But when I want to shirk from having anything to do with her, I go over to her house anyway. She is a shut-in, and has very few people to talk to. I give of myself because this is what Jesus would have us to do. It is always easy to do things for a friend...it is so much harder--but more worthwhile, to spend time with someone who makes it a bit harder to be friends with! How can you be a blessing for another today?
ReplyDeleteit always looks easy--on paper. To do it is another matter entirely!
