the King--who is your "King?"

Every generation has a "king," someone who surpasses the expectations of so many admirers. If you asked a follower of classical music, it would have been Beethoven. For Gospel/pop/soul admirers, it would have been Elvis. For comedic acting, it would have been Robin Williams. Past president? It would be either Abraham Lincoln or John F. Kennedy. Writing? More than likely, William Shakespeare. Though many try, few can fill the shoes of the ones who have gone before us.

In our generational endeavors to nominate a "king," there is one who has surpassed time and place in history. One who, though he only spent 33 years on earth, has made a name for Himself that time and space will never erase. While persuing the tabloids at the local grocer, it may be easy to believe that the Kardashians of this world have our attention--for now--but what have they or any like them done to make our world, or even a corner in it...worthwhile? You may get caught up in the shallow antics of "The Bachelor," but really, a solid foundation built on true love and respect cannot be found sleeping with men or women until the "one" has been picked.

Kept in perspective, there is nothing wrong with focusing our attention on those who can inspire us  (of an earthly nature), but it's my hope that one keeps in mind the real Idol who will save your soul when you finally meet your Maker. Jesus is our Hope and Promise...it is His example that we must follow. Give all you have to the poor, love one another as you wish to be loved yourself. Share all that you have, be it time, talent or treasure. Store up your treasures in heaven. Be like little children. Forgive as many times as needed. All of these lessons and more, Jesus taught us. For three years, He walked among those who needed a true "hero." Why is it so wrong today to follow Him? Why are so many ashamed to spread His message of Love and Hope?

Whoever is ashamed of me and my words, the Son of Man will be ashamed of them when he comes in his glory and in the glory of the Father and of the holy angels. Luke 9:26.

If anyone is ashamed of me and my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will be ashamed of them when he comes in his Father's glory with the holy angels." Mark 8:38

But whoever disowns me before others, I will disown before my Father in heaven. Matthew 10:33.

As these three passages show, the Gospel writers knew how important allegiance to God was. They did not shirk their duty to proclaim His word.

"For what is a man profited if he gains the whole world, and loses or forfeits himself? Luke 9:25

This last passage, also seen quoted in all four Gospels, proves that for anyone to be ashamed or afraid to speak up about God now, will lose all that is waiting for us in the hereafter.

Look to today's news. Evil lurks in all of the world. Wars, greed, hunger, corruption....it is laid out on the nightly news. Do you turn your back on it, or do you seek solutions for it? Pray for strength, pray for guidance, pray for healing...then go out and be a part of that process. Let your actions speak for you. Even something as simple as social media...when you see a faith-based post, do you shrug and move on or do you re-post it? Speak up! Jesus spoke loud and clear when He died for our sins. Now it is our turn.....what are you waiting for?
