what if "they"...were you?
It's a sad thing to deal with addictions, be it alcoholism or drugs. It's even more sad when one dies from those addictions and the baggage that comes with it, namely, depression. It is even more sad when it is someone we know, such as a celebrity. In this case, Robin Williams, who passed away due to suicide.
Do you know what I also find sad? I find very sad that when it is a celebrity, we mourn, we grieve, we post things on social media. All that is well and good, as we are commiserating as one entity. However, how about those who are not celebrities...who mourns them? Why is it OK to post things about someone we know only through media, but if it were a parent, a friend, or even that homeless guy or gal on the street, we shake our heads, we look away. We say, either to ourselves or to another: "why don't "they" get a life?"
Once upon a time, "They" DID have a life! "They" had family who cared, "they" had friends, a job, a home....but then, something intervened and shattered their world. Maybe it was at a party; "just one won't hurt ya" they were told. Or maybe it all began so innocently. One drink which lead to two. You tell yourself, "I've worked hard, I deserve this!" which became a night of drinking hard...and not remembering a thing afterwards, not even when you were told what an ass you made of yourself. "Oh...the puking?" Yeah, you may have done that, too, but someone else cleaned it up. They cleaned it up and more. They watched as you slid into your descent to hell....and couldn't help you out no matter how hard you tried, or how much you told them...and yourself... that "one more drink (or puff or hit...) won't hurt. Then you become depressed thinking about what happened, though you maybe can't remember it...and what MAY happen again. Then come the lies, the denials...
Are you seeing a pattern here?
Did you also see how "they" became...you?
It is so easy to lob judgment against "someone else." "They" need to get their lives together....but if it were you who also needed to hear that message...how would you feel if the world turned it's back on you?
Unless you had fame, money, prestige...then the world mourns your passing.
Hmmm...
We are all children of God. You are just as important as any TV star! You are important to someone...or to many people. No one is immune to life, it happens. So why does the death of a celebrity shock you--but if it was that homeless guy you see daily on the street...his life is regarded as pure waste?
Today....think about the ones who we see daily....put yourselves in their shoes....don't pass judgment. You may never know....their road to another day can be made...or broken...by the attitudes that we display. Why are you any better than they are anyway?
In the way of achieving your goals you will face so many difficulties but never quit...keep moving...the human spirit can handle many worse conditions than we realize...
