 Already it is happening...that slow, subtle shift from summer to autumn. State fairs are beginning, gourds are beginning to show up at farmstands and I saw mums at the store yesterday.

Ah, sweet autumn. The angle of the sun is becoming lower once again, the night changes to daylight so much later now and the birds, for the most part, have become quiet. Cicadas are rasping away in a tree near you, their buzzsaw sounds are pretty easy to pick out. Crickets now keep up the tempo at night and everywhere, from back to school sales to farmers getting their equipment ready for the harvest, our life is again becoming a season of change.

Instead of dreading the winter to come, take time this year to embrace autumn. Cooler days and nights as well as crisp blue skies, the many varied colors that tickle the imagination, all are God's way of making us realize that things in life which are fleeting are here now  to be appreciated. Be sure to look up also; birds are already preparing to migrate to warmer climes and monarch butterflies are in full force in my back yard! So take those long weekend drives, enjoy the view and give thanks for all that you have been given!
