WWJD

Remember this acronym which was more popular about ten years ago than it is now? WWJD=what would Jesus do? If Jesus were here today, would he hang out with the rich and famous? In his day he was known as the King of the Jews. Kings = royalty, special treatment, the works! Look at Hollywood 'celebrities', they get the red carpet treatment. Or would Jesus defer demurely and instead take the low road? If you are familiar with the Bible it has this to say in all four Gospels: "For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”
Wow! What brought that response on?  "Jesus was at a dinner at a Pharisee's home. One Sabbath, when Jesus went to eat in the house of a prominent Pharisee, he was being carefully watched. There in front of him was a man suffering from abnormal swelling of his body.  Jesus asked the Pharisees and experts in the law, “Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath or not?”  But they remained silent. So taking hold of the man, he healed him and sent him on his way."
Jesus had a special affinity for the ones who were weaker, both in spirit as well as body. He took pity on those who suffered. In fact, he had this to say: “When you give a luncheon or dinner, do not invite your friends, your brothers or sisters, your relatives, or your rich neighbors; if you do, they may invite you back and so you will be repaid.  But when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind,  and you will be blessed. Although they cannot repay you, you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous.”(Luke 14:1-14)

I can see Jesus at an AA meeting. I can see Jesus walking the streets, seeking out the homeless, the alcoholics, the drug addicts, the mentally challenged as well as the chronically depressed. I can see Jesus at a shelter for abused women, comforting them in their time of fear. I can see Jesus in the welfare line or food shelf, assuring those present that things will get better in time. I can see Jesus in a hospital, comforting the dying. I can see Jesus in the prisons, giving aid to those who are truly repentant. In fact, one doesn't have to look too hard to see that Jesus would be everywhere, that is, except walking on some cushy red carpet, having pictures snapped of himself, seeking accolades for His work with the poor. He would shun all of that and instead, encourage others to be just like Him. He would not judge any but those who look down on the weak. He would remind us all that to be a peacemaker, we must strive to begin within our homes and families, then reach out from there.
I can see all of this because I am that weak person, and I have felt His presence numerous times. It is because of this that I can also reach out to one who is in need. and for that, I give thanks to God, because through my suffering, I can be of service to another.
Thanks be to God!

  1. you should be Ms Dalai Lama...you sound so much like him. If more people strove for peace we'd have no pain in the world.

  2. its because you have lived that life of pain that you can feel compassion for others. If only all could feel what you feel instead of becoming bitter!
