one day at a time......

For all those who are struggling, who feel life's cruel sting and the trap therein, I offer you comfort. I just read a sad story yesterday about Houston Rockets NBA coach Kevin McHale's daughter, who passed away at age 23 from lupus. A life taken so young from an illness so tragic.
I also was diagnosed with lupus back in 2000. The road since then has been bumpy with sudden sharp curves. It affects more women than men. It is an autoimmune disease for which there is no cure that affects the skin, joints, blood and kidneys. Although there are immunosupressive drugs available, these itself have inherent risks associated with them, including cancers and MRSA, a lethal bacterial infection. Similar to AIDS, many die from the complications as opposed to the illness itself. My hope is that sooner than later, a cure can be found for this insidious illness. Until then...it's just one day at a time for those affected.
