what do YOU want for Thanksgiving?

At this time of year, magazines are chock full of cooking ideas, with food blazoned on every cover. How to make the perfect turkey. How to have a perfect table setting. How to serve a perfectly carved bird and so on. What I don't see, too much of anyway, is how to show gratitude for everything you have! Indeed, what is the day after Thanksgiving? Black Friday, a day for everyone to go flipping nuts and grab as many deals as they can to give to as many people as they can who have no idea how to be grateful for what they already have. It's all about more, more more!!
Huge sigh.
Let's rewind. I won't go into the history of Thanksgiving and bore you with hungry Pilgrims. What I will do is remind you that people are still hungry today, and not just for food. They are hungry for attention, affection, recognition, validation, love and support. Instead, we have Uncle Charley passed out in front of the TV with a half empty bottle of Captain Morgan at his feet, Aunt Harriet is complaining that no one helps her to clean up, dad and the boys are engrossed in the twelfth football game of the day, mom is clipping coupons for the big shopping expedition and little sister knows this will involve yelling on her parents' part for overspending their already maxxed out credit cards.
Some holiday, huh? Real happy picture there!
Sheesh.....

A rich man and a beggar walked into a coffee shop. The rich man told the poor man his woes, ending with the line, "...and we lost everything in the hurricane!"
The poor man looks the rich man over, shifts in his seat as he toys with probably the only hot drink he'll have that day. He ponders going back to his "place" in the subway tunnels and replies, "so did I, my friend. So did I!"

This year, put aside your "I wants" and instead, give to someone who has so much less. Because to that person, what they have is more than enough.
Think about it.
Please!
