be the bridge of peace!

"Why can't we ditch the labels and come together in support of what really matters- namely, the people?"
I heard a politician utter this question a few days ago and I was astonished. It is not often you hear such a profound statement from the elected officials. But it is so true.

Why don't we ditch the labels and promote peace?

Republican vs Democrat. Black vs white. Slave vs free. Hispanic vs American. Old vs young. Disabled vs well-bodied. Depressed vs sane. Rich vs poor. Addict vs sober.
and on it goes.
Beginning today, shed all of the labels, all of the steroetypes, get rid of it!
We are all created in the image of God. Why then, the discrepancies?

"An argument started among the disciples as to which of them would be the greatest.
Jesus, knowing their thoughts, took a little child and had him stand beside him.   Then he said to them, "Whoever welcomes this little child in my name welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me. For it is the one who is least among you all who is the greatest."  Luke 9:46-48

Children are so innocent. They say what they think and mean and if there is conflict, they get through it and it's done. Then they go back to playing as if nothing happened. No grudges, no power struggles...they share, they feel the pain of another. In fact, a child is so protective of their home/family, that they will tolerate abuse as opposed to be separated from the ones they love! Such loyalty, even if it is skewered.

Beginning today, put aside labels. Live and let live! If you can't agree, then agree to disagree and move on. Life is too short for grudges, for pain and division. Be the bridge to peace. Be the peacegiver.

It's as you say....it's just as easy to commend rather than CONDEMN. Yet we choose to bring others down...to make ourselves look good, I guess. But it's Easter...a time for renewal. Maybe we can renew how we react to others! Have a blessed Easter!
