Life is a series of reboots!

Near my house, there was once a poplar tree. It had stood for over twenty years, but in the last two it began to die off and thus, was cut down earlier this summer, it's roots also removed. Where it once stood, soil was added and grass seed planted.

Then something happened.

In its place, I noticed a small shaft of green poke through the ground. Soon it had leaves, and kept on growing, even through the drought conditions that we have had this summer. It is now about two feet high and thriving! It is a poplar sapling! How can that be, I wondered? The roots and all were taken away!
Well, maybe not all...despite the adversity of being uprooted and destroyed, somethign new took it's place.
This is true in my life and it is true in yours also. Just think of any number of upheavals that you may have experienced: loss of job, a move, a death, an illness...these all require that we uproot, that we begin again, start over. It's only when we let GO of something that we can attain something better. You can't have both the bad with the good, you have to refresh and reboot!

For many people, this is difficult. We spend so much time looking at the spot where once stood a mighty poplar and not see the tiny sapling taking it's place. In loss comes rejuvenation. Think back to Mount Saint Helens, the volcano in Washington state. More than twenty years after it's explosion, new life is growing. In forest fires, new life can only bloom in the extreme heat and devastation of what once was a lush forest. In a flood, new species of fish and aquatic life may be redeposited from areas far away--and thrive.

This is known as the circle of life. We all need to adapt and go forward. Adjust and move ahead. Only look back to see just how far ahead you have become, but do NOT dwell there....it is no longer your place to be.

  1. Those with addictions need to read this! They get so mired in day to day stuff. "I failed, so what?" and they continue to drink or do drugs. As you said...move on...reboot! To stay in the game of life, we all need to do this!
