so...what are YOU going to do about it??

"Help one another: this is what Jesus teaches us and this is what I am doing, and doing with all my heart, because it is my duty. As a priest and a bishop, I must be at your service. But it is a duty which comes from my heart: I love it. I love this and I love to do it because that is what the Lord has taught me to do. But you too, help one another: help one another always. One another. In this way, by helping one another, we will do some good." Pope Francis

The words of Pope Francis has never been truer than they are today. With all of the news of strife in Syria, in Kenya and even here in the good ol' USA, we need to become more aware of our surroundings. Too often we get caught up in the plans of what we'll be doing next month, next summer...Christmas will be here before we know it. Already the stores are counting down the shopping days! I find it ironic that to celebrate the birth of a child born so long ago, we have succumbed to commercialism. Even the holiday of Halloween, it is estimated that people will be spending about $75.00 per person to celebrate the day.

There are many around you who are hungry. It isn't just confined to North Minneapolis or the south side of Chicago, they are living among us. "They" are the seniors who have worked all of their lives and are now confined to the pittance that social security provides for them. "They" are the family of four whose parents are working several jobs and still can't get ahead. "They" are the homeless that you don't see, because they spend their nights on the couches of friends.

Why, in this "land of plenty," is there such want? Why in this "land of plenty," can't people get a decent paying job and have food to eat? "They" are just like you and I...an occasional fast food burger or a night at the movies would be great...but it can't be figured into the budget. So many go without...so very many....is this right? Do you think it is fair? What would YOUR reaction be if it were you? I know what mine would be....I would feel bitter, left out, all alone in a world that should have enough for all....but the will of others doesn't make it so. Companies and corporations are in it for themselves, rarely do they remember the "little guys and gals" who have taken them to the top. As their pockets become fat, the rest of the world becomes leaner.
No, it is NOT fair. Not at all.

So...what are YOU going to do about it?

  1. Between yesterdays' post and this one, Miss Reverend, are you not afraid of what the NSA will do to you? It's the government after all that you're vilifying. Then again, Jesus also pissed off the government in His day also. Of course, they crucified Him.
