are you a laborer?

Gospel - Matthew 9:32-3
A demoniac who could not speak was brought to Jesus,
and when the demon was driven out the mute man spoke.
The crowds were amazed and said,
“Nothing like this has ever been seen in Israel.”
But the Pharisees said,
“He drives out demons by the prince of demons.”

Jesus went around to all the towns and villages,
teaching in their synagogues,
proclaiming the Gospel of the Kingdom,
and curing every disease and illness.
At the sight of the crowds, his heart was moved with pity for them
because they were troubled and abandoned,
like sheep without a shepherd.

Then he said to his disciples,
“The harvest is abundant but the laborers are few;
so ask the master of the harvest
to send out laborers for his harvest.”

Hmmm..laborers for the harvest. Are you a laborer, someone who readily rolls up their sleeves and says, "yes! I am here! What can I do for you today?" and then, does it with a cheerful heart? Or are you one of those who has to pull out their calendar..."now let's see...I think I am free two weeks from now for maybe an hour...but I have to get back to you on that one!" Or...are you the one who shrugs their shoulders and says, "eh...let someone else do it, I cannot be bothered!"

My friend, if that last one is you, then what right do you have to complain when nothing goes the way you'd like to see it happen?

We all want for peace in the world. It can be the WHOLE world, or it can maybe just be in your own neighborhood. But...what have YOU done to produce results? Are you the one with your shades drawn...always on the watch, always cynical that everyone is out to get you? Do you cringe when you see a homeless person...when you know there is someone in the family with an alcohol or drug problem, do you just cast them out?

You need to realize that your words can be as effective a weapon as any sword. If you have children, they can pick up on your words, your attitudes...and we wonder why we have bullying in schools!

Why not promote peace, through words, actions and thoughts? In that way, all who come into contact with you will feel those positive energy vibrations, they will want to be with you, they will be inspired by you...and then perhaps they too will go and spread love and peace wherever they go!
Pipe dream? Hardly! I know of Someone who did just that--He spread His positive message everywhere, He reached out to those who were afflicted, He cried with those who were in agony and He walked those final steps to save us---ungrateful as we can be--from an eternal death.
So...why can't we be like Him?
Who is this?
Oh my...it's Jesus Christ!
Today, be like Jesus wherever you go. Spread His gospel of love to all you meet. Use words--if necessary!
Amen!

  1. That last statement is from the words of St Francis of Assisi. So inspiring! It's true...if we haven't done anything, what right do we have to complain. Conversely, if we judge everything...again, how can we do anything to resolve that? If you don't mind, I will use this for my upcoming sermon. Thank you!

  2. Exactly! Instead of waiting for "the government" to do anything, maybe we need to be self sufficient once again.....oh my! There's a thought!
