positive news...what a relief!!

It's Saturday night and I am wrestling with pain that on a scale of one to ten is about a twelve! When my Rheumatoid arthritis flares, it feels like a full blown flu bug has hit, with muscular aches as well as bone pain and fever. I wouldn't wish it on anyone. I try to not whine about it; instead I get up, stay busy with something else and stay focused on positive thoughts (and not, I am positive that I want to just die to end this misery!) Suffering is inevitable in life, as the 5 p.m. news can attest to...as well as the six, nine, ten and all morning news channels know. It can be depressing, why can't they focus on the many good things that folks do? Why does misery command attention?

I know of a gal who works with feral cats in a southwest suburb of Minneapolis. Right now it is kitten time! She is trapping babies and also hopes to have mamas caught as well. She does all she can to find these babies homes after making sure they are healthy and bonding with them to assure they are socialized. Many nights find her hand feeding them and the success rate of these little ones going to good homes is wonderful news indeed! She also has three books published about her work with a fourth at the printer now. If you are interested in purchasing her books, her name is Clarissa Wolf and her books can be found at www.amazon.com Such dedication should always be rewarded with a pat on the back!

Another gentleman I just met has an organization called Do Some Good. He and his wife focus on the positive things that happen in their community by not only partaking, but also encouraging others to do the same, as well as spreading the word on how they are also making that difference in the world. If you check out their website, you will see what they have planned in the near future: www.dsgchallenge.com

My own DFL representative here in Minnesota, Joe Atkins, hosts a May Day 5 K run to raise money for scholarships at our local high school. It is a win-win situation, as many folks turn out for this and its a great way to get folks of all ages together for some exercise! In the fall, he collects food for the local food shelf at our city-wide parade. He himself pushes that grocery cart up and down the parade route, so it isn't just case of do as I say...it's also AS I DO!!!

With good news like this flooding my e-mail inbox as well as Facebook page, it's hard to stay depressed for very long! I am uplifted by the good things these folks are doing and this is just a sample of what folks can do when they are motivated to make that difference in our world. You see....it is, as Mother Teresa says, small things done with great love!

If you know of anyone who also is making a difference in their corner of the world, please pass that information on so that I can highlight it here. we all need uplifting news...so let's make our own!!!

  1. wow...what a great way to highlight what is happening in your community! As you said, we get so focused on the petty crud of life that we forget, there is a whole wonderful world out there!!!! Thanks for focusing on that!

  2. I agree--the news is so shallow..."all about me" or "what do I get?" Whatever we can do in our little communities DOES have a far reaching effect....so, let's get it started!
