is the grass greener in your yard?

Martin Luther King, Jr. didn't wait for someone else to make things right. He started it on his own. He turned chaos into something worthwhile.

Daily life. When all goes well, we don't even give it a single thought. We take for granted that all will be well. When a wrench is tossed in the midst, however, we fret, worry and agonize over the "what next?" aspect of our life. We become impatient and want things to smooth out real quick!

"What next?" indeed!

My husband doesn't mind getting lost. He sees it as an unexpected adventure into an otherwise boring trip. I see it just the opposite. I make sure that I have maps and directions and sometimes, even when I follow everything according to "the Plan," I still can get messed up. I fret, I worry, I agonize...! I like everything in my life to be neat, organized, tidy. No worries! But we cannot control our lives that way! There must be chaos for us to appreciate the organized mess that we get ourselves into!

It was the same in Moses' day. He sure heard it from those whiny Israelites, though! "Are we there yet?" (sound familiar?) And when every little thing went wrong, God was sure to make it right. That didn't appease them, however, always unsatisfied, they spent many years wandering in the wilderness. Same with Adam and Eve. Life was perfect., but her desire for more and better got Eve into a huge amount of trouble. Lesson of the day: more is not always better!

The movie, "Wizard of Oz" is the same way. Dorothy thought that there was "something better" on  the other side of the rainbow. By the end of the film, she learned that when you want something more, it's better to stay closer to your own backyard, and she realized this only because, as the Good Fairy told her, she had it all along, within her heart. Things aren't always what they seem. The "other side" just may be greener only because of the weeds that we mistook for grass growing there.

I see countries around our globe sinking into pits of despair. Greed is taking over. Leaders want "theirs" at all costs, even if innocent people starve and go homeless. Their impatience is taking a huge toll on their citizens. I look at all of this chaos and wonder just when will it all end.
But why wait? Why not do something ourselves? Each of us...if you see something, say something! You have the power of the pen, use it. Freedom of speech, so long as your words promote peace, say it! Be a leader in your neighborhood, start today to bring about peace...with peace comes justice. Who that is peaceful among us wants to see another suffer? Start today....the grass will be greener because you have made it so!
